About 200 sites have already been discovered in Besançon and are exhibited in this museum. The museum holds an important archaeological heritage; Mediterranean and Egyptian, many sculptures and many paintings of famous painters such as Gustave Courbet.

After your visit to the Fine Arts and Archaeology Museum, the Time Museum, which traces the great moments of Franco-Swiss watchmaking, is a 10-minute walk away.

The museum presents some of the instruments of the Besançon astronomical observatory. In addition, tapestries, illustrious figures, relief maps, historical paintings, furniture and objets d’art invite us to dive into the history of the city and of Franche-Comté.

At the end of the visit, a panorama of the city’s roofs is offered to visitors after having discovered the famous Foucault pendulum located at the foot of the palace tower.
